Faced with security issues, Burkina Faso also needs to address another key priority – improving access to health services and quality care, particularly in the southwest region.
The Burkina Faso government has entrusted Ellipse Projects with the task of building a Regional University Hospital on a 25-hectare site in Tonka. The project is being jointly financed by Credendo, Société Générale and ING.
With a university sector, student accommodation and lecture theatres, the site will become a major hospital for the southwest, providing training, supervision and medical research activities. Around 50 hospital units will soon be in operation, offering mainly clinical and medical-technical services (intensive care, paediatrics, gynaecology-obstetrics, medical and surgical emergencies, general surgery, dental surgery, etc.). All will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities.
The construction of Gaoua Regional University Hospital will significantly enhance the wellbeing of the local population and generate employment during the construction phase. Before the project, an environmental and social impact assessment concluded that 23 people owned land on which the hospital would be built. All of them were supported, helped with their move, and awarded compensation. Conducted as part of the management of the social impact on people affected by the project, the task was carried out with our environmental and social consultants in compliance with International Finance Corporation standards.
